It might be vacation time for some, however, there will be a tremendous amount of activity going on this summer (and beyond) toward advancing ground segment interoperability at DIFI. Some highlights:
- We’re working to release version 1.2 of the DIFI IF Interoperability Standard (IEEE-ISTO Std 4900-2021) next month. Advances will include Synch & Flow Control enhancements and Bandwidth & Sampling rate improvements to help assure device compatibility. (BTW, current version 1.1 is openly available to all.)
- Work is also progressing beyond 1.2 to address specific issues related to TDMA applications, such as special timing and performance use cases. These enhancements are targeted for revision 1.3 late this year.
- Working groups have continued driving the certification process forward, including a planned PlugFest scheduled for early fall. Nope, not sales “plugs.” We’ll be plugging devices from various member companies together in a live network to check compliance to the standard and verify interoperability. We’ll also be measuring the effectiveness of the standard to see if and where any real-world tweaks are necessary.
- It’s also my pleasure to announce that DIFI plans to run a day-long session at MILCOM 2023, the military communications conference in October. We are inviting papers and poster sessions on interesting digital transformation topics from any company or organization, whether a DIFI member or not. Last year’s half-day program proved so popular it has been expanded to a full day. Email your ideas and questions, do not submit them at the MILCOM site. You can see some of the work from last year.
I hope you’ll join us for these and other DIFI activities, whether as a member or otherwise, to advance the path of interoperability and digital transformation in the space industry.
