Robert Cardillo, Former Director, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
With us today is Robert Cardillo, former director of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, current Distinguished fellow at Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technology and Founding member of Orbital Insights Federal Advisory Board. During this episode we'll be talking about new developments, both good and bad, concerning artificial intelligence and machine learning and we're recording this interview from the floor of SATELLITE 2020.
Robert discusses Sentient, a process that uses AI to analyze research that's being tested and evaluated, and how that technology can be applied to government challenges. These include the balance between security and privacy… what are the implications and consequences? As an example, Robert discusses being in most any urban center and being imaged almost continually by local government-police, rescue, local law enforcement. That's our reality today and there's no reverse switch on this. But, as Robert explains, there are numerous forms of surveillance, facial recognition, satellite triangulation to identify your position geographically. The conversation continues, touching on legal, security and ethical issues surrounding the aforementioned balance between security and privacy.
